Ophaboom was recently described as "Britain's premier commedia dell'arte ensemble" by the National Theatre. Since 1991, they have enchanted audiences with hilarious half-masked versions of classic stories, including The Miller's Tale, Romeo and Juliet, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Faustus. Their contemporary version of commedia creates fast and furious shows with an improvisational twist that makes each performance a unique experience.
Ophaboom's latest show, Robin Hood, has been performed over 130 times since
its premiere in March 2002. It has attracted critical and audience acclaim
across Britain, and Europe, and also visited a festival in South Korea. The
show will be playing off West End in November 2002 at London's Riverside Studios
for a three week run.
Thanks to the success of the show, it is available for international bookings
in 2003 and beyond. Robin Hood is a rip-roaring retelling of the classic legend,
combining slapstick and satire with live music, puppetry and apple-splitting
archery
in a show that appeals to all ages. The show's strong visual style makes it
understandable to audiences who do not speak English, although those who do
will enjoy the witty contemporary references that evolve constantly with the
show.
Further details of the show and the company's history are enclosed. A video showing highlights of the show is available on request, in either VHS format or as a CD that can be viewed using Media Player, QuickTime and most other popular software. Please feel free to get in touch to discuss the show further or to request a video.
| Availability |
Bookings now being taken for 2003 & 2004. We have extensive
experience of touring to a wide range of venues in the UK and around the world. |
| Duration |
1 hour 20 minutes plus optional interval. |
| Company |
Four performers. The size of our road crew depends on the type of tour venue being visited. |
| Technical |
There are two different stage sets for the show, one for small and outdoor spaces, the other for more conventional, larger theatres. Lighting requirements are fairly simple and where we do not tour a lighting operator a plot is provided for venue staff to run. Instruments are played live by performers. No effects/amplification needed. |
| Age Suitability |
6+ is our guideline, but this is not children's theatre - it is suitable for all ages. Young children are sometimes scared of the masks worn by the performers. The show has no content unsuitable for younger children. |
| Fee Range |
Negotiable based on venue type, location and whether accommodation is provided. We normally only perform on a fixed fee basis but are happy to discuss alternative possibilities. |
